Elematic Group, a global leader in precast concrete solutions, and Vakio Jindal Build, have announced a strategic partnership to advance the adoption of industrialised construction in India. The collaboration aims to help the construction industry address growing demand for housing, infrastructure and urban development through faster, more productive and scalable building methods.
India’s construction sector faces rising costs, a shortage of skilled workers, project delays, and quality risks. These problems are further compounded by the need to deliver a record number of buildings and infrastructure, with greater predictability amidst tightening regulations and environmental requirements. Industrialised construction offers an approach that integrates design, factory-based production, automation and more systematic site assembly to make construction more repeatable and scalable.
The partnership brings together Elematic’s expertise in precast technology, automation and industrial production with Vakio Jindal Build’s capabilities in design for precast and prefabrication as well as in prefabricated construction products such as bathroom pods. Together, the companies aim to help customers adopt industrialized construction methods suited to Indian market conditions.
India’s need for infrastructure and housing is growing rapidly, but the way India builds has not kept pace.
“It is hard to estimate the construction market in India, but the latest figures show that India is a ~USD 700bn construction market growing around 7–8% annually; precast represents only ~1% of construction value today, with the stronger market estimates indicating ~9–12% growth, led by infrastructure, residential and industrial applications. In this situation, India has a unique opportunity to rethink how construction is delivered. To achieve the scale, speed and quality required for the country’s growth ambitions, we need to move beyond traditional construction methods and embrace a more industrialised approach”, said Teppo Voutilainen, CEO of Elematic Group.
“This starts at the design stage. Buildings must be designed for precast and repeatable production processes, not adapted afterwards. At the same time, technology alone is not enough. Developing the skills and capabilities of designers, engineers, production teams and project stakeholders is equally critical. Industrialised construction succeeds when people, processes and technology evolve together.”
“Industrialized construction requires a mindset shift where construction is approached as a repeatable process instead of a series of individual projects. Through our partnership with Elematic, we are bringing together complementary expertise to help advance this transition in India. We believe the combination of smart design, manufacturing excellence and skilled people will be critical to delivering the scale of housing and infrastructure that India’s future demands”, said Jussi Aho, Chairman of the Board, Vakio Global.
“India’s construction sector needs solutions that can deliver greater speed, quality and productivity at scale. Our partnership with Elematic and Vakio Global brings together complementary expertise in precast technology, industrialised design and manufacturing to help address these challenges. By combining global experience with an understanding of India’s evolving construction needs, we aim to support a more efficient and scalable approach to building” said Ajay Agarwal, EVP, Construction Solutions Business, Jindal Steel Ltd.
Through the partnership, Elematic and Vakio Jindal Build will support customers in integrating design, production and site execution, and share international practices that can help advance industrialised construction in India.
India is one of Elematic’s fastest-growing markets, supported by local manufacturing operations in Alwar, Rajasthan, and Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh. These facilities support the company’s long-term commitment to serving India’s construction industry and customers seeking modern, industrialised construction solutions. Recent investments have further strengthened the company’s ability to support customers seeking modern and industrialised construction solutions.
